Happy Birthday, Parker! My 9/11 baby - so wise!

September 11, 2001 was to be a great, special day.  It was my son's 6th birthday.  We got up, sang "Happy Birthday," had lots of hugs and kisses, and I went to prepare breakfast.  As a special birthday treat, my husband went to put cartoons on for Parker to watch while I made his b-day breakfast.  In one second, the whole day changed.

I remember how shocked I was and how I just couldn't walk away from the television.  Uncertainty flooded my heart and soul.  I cried, I prayed, I got angry.  Meanwhile, my little boy built two towers out of Legos.  He grabbed a Hot Wheels car that was flying like an airplane right at those towers.  Then, suddenly, Supeman came and stopped that plane.  My baby looked up at me and said, "Mom, if there was a real Superman, this never would have happened."

He is right.  Superman knows that there is evil and that it must be fought.  The good news is that America is full of potential superpeople who can stand up against evil.  The great news is that we have two candidates on the Republican ticket who have a little Super(wo)man in them.  Even more encouraging is that they have kids, like so many other parents in this country who have answered the call and signed up for our voluntary armed forces.

Today, BE SUPERMAN.  Find some little piece of evil in your corner of the world and crush it.  Or, find some little known place of goodness and celebrate it.  Most of all, don't suspend politics.  Today more than any other reminds us what is at stake.  Get to your nearest McCain-Palin headquarters and HELP.  Give money, give time, give energy, give passion.  It is the least we can give, many will give their very lives.

Finally, I just pray, "God Bless America, land that I love, stand beside her and guide her through the night with the light from above."
Amen
